Road Trip Day 3 & 4, Mishap 2

So...

When I last wrote, we were in Ashland, Oregon. Well, technically Mount Ashland, but no matter.

Anyway - we woke up in the morning, had a leisurely room service breakfast (enjoying as much as we could of living it up), and finally packed up and left the lodge we stayed at a little after 11. The car was fine. We think it was just close to overheating and that's why it was acting up. It had been a tough day of hills, so that was probably the case.

We got about 30 miles down the road, into California, then going up a slight up hill, the car started struggling. I looked into the side mirror and noticed we'd blown the other tire on the trailer. The good thing about all this is that it wasn't fish tailing like crazy or throwing us around. The bad thing was we only had a full size car tire, not a proper trailer tire to put on the car. And it is a Sunday.

We pull over. The tire is amazingly destroyed. Video to come soon. It is smoking and the rim is screwed. We drove on it for probably a half mile, and it got messed up.

We change the tire, and then head into Yreka, CA. In Yreka, we get gas and air for the tire, but nothing is open to get a proper trailer tire. So, we decide to limp onto Redding, as our options otherwise are pretty limited.

The 100 miles to Redding was stressful and insane to say the least. Tons of hills and curves. A lot of crazy downhill curves. R. did some amazing driving w/our ghetto tire on the trailer and a lot of weight in the trailer... which is very sketchy on the downhills. Plus, the uphills being hard on the car. Oh yeah, and it kept raining. We made it to Redding unscathed mainly due to his driving skills. We were able to get a trailer tire at Costco (we are also proud Costco members now) and eat some yummy In N Out Burger. After that, we were both tired, but we pressed onto San Rafael, where R. has a friend. For the most part, the drive wasn't bad, but I-80 had some crazy parts of super rippled road, and the trailer got quite bouncy. Also, on CA-37, again, crazy bounciness. I was quite happy when we arrived at G.'s house. I think R. and the cat were too.

After staying the night there, we got up and drove down to San Jose this morning. We are now at R's dad's house and will be spending the night here. It was nice to have a short drive today and the next few days will be spent in California.

I will post pictures and video of the last 2 days later today. Yesterday was definitely long intense day, and it feels good to have a bit of time to relax now. I might even get R. to write an update soon ;o)

- N.
